They say it is better to give than receive. We at Lane Forest Products could not agree more, so we dedicate product, funding and add our sponsorship to various events throughout our local Oregon community.

Recently, two of our Lane Forest employees took this message to heart and now lead by example.

AmericanCancerSocietyOREAfter Connie Hazlett and Max Richardson-Davis watched people they love suffer from cancer, they decided they needed to do something to help. Knowing they couldn’t reverse engineer time or magically invent a cure, they both did what they do best: started talking to others who went through the same experience. They hoped to accomplish something, anything to help those they had loved and lost. After speaking with employees, friends, survivors and organizations around town – the two found what they were looking for; Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an organization created by the American Cancer Society to help cancer patients in their daily lives –arranging transportation to and from the hospital, making sure there is a help hotline available and a variety of other resources – and fund a cure for cancer research.

For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer. Together with millions of our supporters worldwide, we help people stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back against cancer.

They finally found their mission.

Connie and Max took it upon themselves to organize a Lane Forest Products, Relay for Life team, with a few coworkers. They set a goal of $1,000 within 8 months’ 31fkujr-u9Ltime through various small, charitable events like in-office bake sales and raffles. What initially started out as a $1,000 goal quickly escalated into something much, much larger. During the months shortly thereafter, Relay for Life stars were seen on almost every Lane Forest window at all three of our retail locations. They were finally fighting back at cancer, one dollar at a time.

We at Lane Forest couldn’t be more proud to announce that the two have not only reached their goal, they have already tripled it!

As a special reward for all their hard work, Lane Forest Products agreed to offered to match whatever the two were able to raise. Including this match, the two have now generated over $3,000 for the Relay for Life organization through grassroots efforts. It is incredibly exciting to witness our employees take on such a task.

As we approach our final month of our Relay for Life campaign (which ends July 1st, 2016), we want to highlight their story and remind everyone reading: when life whirlwinds out of your control, find something to hang on to and fight for what you love and believe in. We hope you are inspired to give back to the community in which you reside, and to those around you who need it most.

If you would like to donate to the Lane Forest Products Relay for Life team, please click here. Connie and Max would surely appreciate it!

This is a touching and inspiring story. To learn of two individuals who chose to take action and encourage others to join them–and to have their company support them– is an example of the purist, most positive grassroots change imaginable. Well done! I wish you all continued success as you generously give of yourselves to care for others.
