Anyone can Espalier, all it takes is patience, and some attention to detail.

The art of espalier is all about selectively pruning and training trees or shrubs to a desired shape.

Training fruit trees as espaliers is a space-saving way of growing fruit. They are actually easier to maintain than a full size tree and are attractive in blossom and fruit. Not to mention the architectural effect they can lend to a garden.

Which fruit trees are the easiest to espalier?

Apple and pear are the easiest, especially for beginners. Apple are a little easier because their new stems stay flexible longer than on pears, making it easier to bend them toward your support. Feeling a little more adventuresome? Plums, Peaches and, figs can also be espaliered with just a bit more effort.

At the Corner Store nursery our selection of fruit is at it’s peak. We have many great choices and are happy to help you get started with your espalier.
